Default Esoteric Warriors Presents: The Premade Contest

In light of their recent triumph in the GWFC, Esoteric Warriors was awarded the opportunity to create new premade PvP templates. Originally the intention was for EW to get together with some of the Anet staff, and design them with no real outside influence. However EW decided to open the doors to the community and have put together a competition for premade submissions!

See more details here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...3052508&page=3

Contest closes for judgement on the 30th of June, 11:59 GMT.

I'll post this here because it seems like that other thread is for submitting builds: how can you add a vote to an existing build?

Post whatever you like here (on-topic), I created this thread because I wanted to bring the focus of it into the PvP section of Guru. So we get less Life Transfer Necromancers...

To rate a build you use the stars at the top of the build description, from left to right which star you click represents the rating you give it. First star = 1 point, last star = 5 points etc.

Here is the build I submitted; A Blessed Light Monk.

I thought for quite a long time about the best build to submit, and wasn't really sure. I wanted something that would be strong in all PvP types, wasn't a FoTM or a build you see in every match on observer mode, but was fairly straight forward.

I settled on the Blessed Light Monk which is just comlex enough that I think it will be a challenge for new players to try, but not put them off. I have tested the build in RA and GvG personally, and have heard it works well in HA also, as a replacement for the usual Active Prot or even the Word Healer.

The second choice I would have submitted was a Dragon Slash Sword Warrior like Jormunds.

I really like the way EW has chosen to get inputs on premades, although seeing the massive amount of votes for the Life Transfer necro, I really hope EW won't fall in the trap of manipulated votings.

I have also submitted a build (Illusion Mesmer) in the hopes that there also will be builds not entirely relying on self heals, but more on defensive measures available to a Mesmer in PvP. Kiting, damage prevention through Distortion, blindness and snares.

It's a build that works very well in RA and TA, I am quite sure however that it probably has no place in GvG's (and not even in HA).

Nevermind, forgot to login before trying to vote.

BTW: don't forget to give at least 4 tips in your build discription .

And here is an example of an amazing counter to a blessed light monk or life transfer necro:

They also seem to want builds with some self-heal, to make it playable in RA.

*sigh*
They appeared today and very quickly hit the top, it is safe to assume they were someones idea of a funny prank.

*sigh* indeed.

And I'm fairly sure EW did figure something like this may happen, which is why they are going to pick one of the top five to use.

That's reasuring, the promising builds are strewn about in the mess of gimmicks and jokes.

I saw one that had four glyphs, three conjure skills and elemental attunement....

All the skills are useful in just about any situation, except for Drain Enchantment. Plus you rarely seen Glyph of Renewal run, on anything really, and it makes for nice back to back skills in many situations(double eburn, or double drain enchant mainly, however double diversion can be useful also). Geared towards RA, where you have absolutly no clue what you're facing. Not really sure if I like the build much after playing it in RA, but at least it's interesting(and better than the Spell Slasher premade...).

If they want RA builds, there's touch ranger builds there in abundance...grr. Like it's the new meta.

Hell I made 2 premades and had real troubles finding them in this mess of builds. How anyone found it to give me 2 votes is beyond me.

Anyway, I submitted 2 eles, both half warders, seeing only airbots and crappy fire builds at that moment. One is half heal spammer and the other half air with utility blinding and some dmg. Versatility and self-sustainability is the key (Aura of Restoration anyone??) but seeing loads of gimmick crap (which should be a well-rounded char??) made me lol at my own attempt.

Anyway, /advertise:

And that Aura of Rest slot really hurts.

I'm just posting the ones I have fun with, not the ones that are actually effective. However, some beginner friends seem to be having fun with some of these...

(And yes, they're not very good...but they're fun!...)

I actually was going to submit a similar build, and I think your expel hexes is a nice touch. Only problem with the build, and perhaps it is my misunderstanding of the contest, but aren't these premade templates geared towards starting PvP players. Therefore I would imagine they would be used in RA, and that means you wan't your build to be a bit more versatile. Further, how about defense and self healing skills? Lastly, though I think your build is fairly straight forward to implement I think I starting player might find it to be a bit challenging. With all that said, I still really like your build. esp. for TA use.

True story. Then again, I wouldn't call boon/prot a noob-friendly build.

If you want to introduce someone to monking, Boon Prot or maybe something like JR's BL build are the best builds.

I really don't know what other monk type could work in RA...

@ lord dark genie

What if a FoTM build is added: this build would be used a lot in PvP by new players. Result: nobody would ever want to invite such a dude who hasn't got any rank or glad title.

Atm, you can be pretty sure that if somebody shouts "boon-prot lfg" it's somebody who knows something about the game mechanics, how else could he obtain that build? But if such a build is added, you won't be able to trust somebody because of his build anymore.

But I need to agree that boon brot and blessed light monks are probably the only monk builds that work in the 4 pvp areas.

BTW: bonder builds do fairly well in RA

That's just plain wrong. Because someone knows a build doesn't mean he has a clue about game mechanics.

Still: if such a build is pre-made the chance somebody with a good build would have no clue about this game would increase extremely.

If you PUG a boon-prot in TA now you have ~75% chance that he knows what he's doing (unless you have the habit of inviting all Mo/Me around) + asking things like "what's your e-mangement?" or "what is kiting?" can give you enough info about the knowledge of somebody.

But with such a pre-made those things would be certainly a lot harder.
